A training program entitled “Developing students’ leadership skills”
As part of the ongoing activities of the Student Counselling Centre, the presentation of lectures, training programs, workshops and mentoring seminars to various members of the University of Dhofar, the Centre held a training program for students of the University on the development of students’ leadership skills presented by Salim Ahmed Akaak, Counseling Specialist and acting head of counseling section.
The Training program began on its first day with a detailed explanation of the concept of leadership and its definition and types and whether leadership is inherited or acquired in addition to the most important theoretical frameworks and schools that knew and classified leadership.
How much has been addressed about the characteristics and attributes of leaders and how to develop and enhance those characteristics and skills as well as the requirements of successful leadership and ways students acquire skills and attributes that enhance their active leadership skills such as planning skills, vision determination, problem-solving skills and other skills needed for leadership personality. Several different examples of enhancing leadership skills have been put forward, with ongoing discussion with the students participating in the workshop, each of whom gave their opinions.
The second day of the training program was completed on Tuesday, 14 November, where many aspects related to leadership skills and ways to enhance them were addressed in students. In addition to a detailed explanation of the importance of leadership development, the ways in which a university student can develop themselves leadership and how he acquires these leadership skills in terms of participating in various student activities and affiliating with student groups at the University, as well as participating in voluntary work and in student projects, all in order to enhance students’ leadership capabilities.
