
College of Engineering at Dhofar University and GORD Promote Sustainability Through “REWAA DHOFAR” Event
Dhofar University’s College of Engineering organized the “REWAA DHOFAR” event under the theme “Sustainable Development in the Sultanate and Ways to Enhance It in Society.” The event, held under the patronage of Professor Amer bin Ali Al Rawas, Vice Chancellor of Dhofar University, gathered academic and government officials, along with sustainability experts on February 23rd.
Organized by Dr. Essam Al-Bahdoor, Dean of the College of Engineering, and Dr. Lamia Mostafa Abd-Rabo from the Department of Architecture, the event aimed to raise awareness about sustainability’s role in achieving Oman Vision 2040.
The program opened with an introductory presentation on Dhofar University and the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD). Dr. Essam Al-Bahdoor reaffirmed the university’s commitment to sustainability, while Dr. Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Horr, Chairman of GORD – Qatar, emphasized integrating GSAS (Global Sustainability Assessment System) standards into engineering curricula to prepare future professionals for climate challenges.
Key presentations included a session on “New Salalah City” by the General Directorate of Housing and Urban Planning and a presentation by Mwasalat on the “Integrated Public Transport Hub Development Project in Nizwa.” Additionally, Nama Dhofar Services, OQBI, and Omantel showcased their sustainability initiatives.
The event concluded with a panel discussion on best practices for fostering sustainability, stressing the importance of collaboration between academia and industries to achieve Oman’s sustainable development goals.
