Overview
The Department of Human Resources (HRD) at Dhofar university (DU) strives to offer the best of human resource services for its faculty and non-academic staff, and to provide a work environment conducive to creativity and innovation in order to accomplish the University’s Vision and Mission. As of September 2023, there are about 447 faculty and non-academic staff who contribute to the success of DU. The HRD works in coordination with all concerned parties to ensure supportive and innovative human resource services.
The HRD performs the following functions in general:
- Applies DU recruitment policies and procedures for hiring faculty and non-academic staff.
- Specifies salaries, compensation, benefits and incentives benchmarking with other HEIs. While specifying the salary package. HRD also ensures that all University staff and faculty, both Omani and Expat, are paid more than the living (minimum) wage as per Omani Labour Laws and the prevailing local standards.
- Supervises non-academic staff appraisal and provides the required training & development through Center for Training and Development of Human Resources (CTDHR) in order to enhance their knowledge and skills.
HR planning for faculty begins at the respective academic department level and ends with the Vice Chancellor. For planning of non-academic staff, the HRD coordinates with various constituent units of the University and is responsible for hiring the required non-academic staff. As for as the senior academic administrative positions are concerned, the University Council makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees for their appointment.
For achieving excellence in teaching, research and other support services, HRD strives to recruit qualified, experienced and diverse faculty and non-academic staff from Oman and outside as per the criteria laid down by the concerned ministries. HRD Also strives for Omanisation of Faculty and non-academic staff and ensure that the targets set by DU in line with Omanisation Policy of the Sultanate of Oman are achieved.
