A motivational program for students under academic probation at Dhofar University, organized by the Center for Student Counseling
For three consecutive days, the Centre for Student Counseling organized workshops dedicated to university students who are under academic probation from May 13 – 15, 2024, as part of the motivational program prepared by the center for university students. The first workshop began on Monday, May 13, under the title “How to Deal with Academic Observation,” presented by Dr. Abdelkader Mohammad Elsayed, Associate Professor, Department of Education. During the workshop, Dr. Abdelkader explained how to deal with academic probation and not give in to it, the necessity of making a special schedule to get out of academic probation, in addition to the necessity of setting priorities in the course of daily life for students under academic probation, and the necessity of changing previous habits that led them to academic probation in order to get out of the academic probation and return to the correct educational path is achieved through hard work, perseverance and dedication and how to move from academic observation to excellence and excellence, and he provided many tips and strategies to get rid of academic observation. The next day, the second workshop of the motivational program was held, entitled “The Art of Self-Motivation,” presented by Dr. Mohammad Mohammad Basyouni Kandil, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences. He provided a detailed explanation of the concept of self-motivation and how students motivate themselves and fill themselves with positive emotions that raise their self-confidence and contribute to significantly raising their level of achievement. He presented many strategies and skills that help students raise their GPA and academic level. Doctor Mohammed Basyouni also touched on the factors affecting students’ ability to motivate themselves, such as setting a personal goal that motivates students to achieve and reach this goal, and such as the social environment through investing in support, motivation, and encouragement from family members, friends, and colleagues, which in turn contributes to increasing students’ self-motivation rates. The various methods and techniques that students can use to increase the level of self-motivation were explained, such as setting smart goals, goal-dividing techniques, self-rewarding techniques, teamwork, and mutual support. On the third day of the workshops, a workshop entitled “Time Management and Effective Study Methods” was presented by Prof. Fares Al-Shubiri, Director of the Department of Graduate Studies, and Dr. Samir Hamami, from the College of Commerce and Administrative Sciences. Professor Dr. Fares Al-Shubiri gave a comprehensive explanation of how to manage and organize time during the entire semester from the moment of registration and choosing courses according to the plan of study and in coordination with the academic advisor, and the importance and role of the academic advisor at this stage, then also how to deal with the mid-semester exam period and how to prepare for it. Then he talked in detail about preparing for the final exams and how to deal with the final exam period. After that, Dr. Samir Hamami discussed effective study methods for students in order to raise their level of achievement, in addition to an extensive explanation of how to design study programs and schedules to provide appropriate preparation for students before, between and after tests. As well as how to make schedules to set priorities.
