Duties:

The Department of Chemical Engineering (CHE), Dhofar University, Sultanate of Oman, invites only Omani applicants for faculty position for the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Chemical and Process Engineering or related specializations.

Duties include teaching undergraduate courses, supervising students’ projects and undertaking active research roles in the field of expertise. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree and have relevant experience, and proven ability for excellence in teaching, and communication skills. The medium of delivery is English.

Requirements:

An PhD in Chemical Engineering or related specializations.
Ability to develop and deliver innovative and effective teaching and learning materials.
High level of analytical and problem-solving capability, planning and organizational skills, demonstrated team working skills with high level of cooperation with other people.
Demonstrable ability to communicate complex oral and written information clearly in English.
Ability to contribute to research in the designated areas and related topics, develop research proposals, seek research funds, and demonstrate high level of team-work skills and cooperation with others.
Good publications record in leading peer-reviewed journals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Contract administration in line with Oman standards
Review / prepare tender documents as per requirement
Review the payment certificates from the cost consultant / supplier / nominated contractor for the payment and maintain records of all payments
Review of cash flow / financial report on a monthly basis for the contracts
Review of variations / claims
Monitoring projects in line with the construction program
Coordinating with all internal DU departments & stakeholders and liaising with external agencies / contractors / suppliers for project-related matters.
Complete all other related tasks as assigned from time to time by the Director / higher authorities.

Eligibility Conditions for Contracts & Quantity Surveyor (Projects):

The candidate should be:

Bachelor’s or Diploma in Civil Engineering
Experience in contracts administration & quantity surveying (minimum 5 years’ experience for bachelor’s degree holder and 10 years for Diploma holder)
Expert knowledge in Contract administration with FIDIC / Oman Standard Document for Building and Civil Engineering Works.
Knowledge of Principles of Measurement International (POM I)
Expert knowledge in variations identification, notifications, evaluations, submissions, substantiation, negotiation and agreement.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; AutoCAD; Microsoft Project, Primavera P6
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities in English
Willing to work in morning & evening shifts as well as on weekends

Applications are invited for a temporary Research Assistant (RA) position at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, Dhofar University, Salalah, Oman. This position is part of a Research Grant (RG) project funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research & Innovation (MoHERI) of Oman and will be supervised by Dr. Monzer Daoud from Dhofar Unviersity and Dr. Walid Jomaa from Polytechnique Montreal, Canada.

Context:

In recent years, hydrogen energy, well-known for its wide availability and zero emissions, has become an attractive option for new clean energy source, with applications spanning transportation, materials production, and heating of buildings. However, adopting the hydrogen energy presents specific challenges. Among these, hydrogen embrittlement (HE) which impacts the integrity and performance of materials employed in hydrogen transport and storage. This phenomenon occurs when hydrogen atoms are absorbed by metallic materials, especially in environments under elevated hydrogen pressure, resulting in a loss of ductility and consequently a risk of catastrophic failure. A deeper insight into the correlations between microstructure and HE sensitivity is highly important for ensuring the safety of hydrogen energy systems. In this context, this proposal aims at using artificial intelligence algorithms to enhance the accuracy of phase identification and accelerate the analysis of the microstructure of steels.

Project objectives:

This research focuses on microstructural analysis of steels, involving:

Phase identification in low-and high-grade steels under different heat treatments and mechanical processes.
Crystallographic orientation mapping using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) to build a dataset for deep learning (DL) training.
Selection and implementation of high-performance DL algorithms for phase recognition.
Investigation of the correlation between microstructure and HE sensitivity.

Research Assistant (RA) position requirements:

We are seeking a highly qualified Research Assistant (RA) with a Master’s or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a closely related field. Candidates with backgrounds in Mechanical Engineering (Materials Focus)/Physics (Crystallography)/Computer Science (AI/Deep Learning for Materials Science) may also be considered.

Main Responsibilities:

Compiling and analyzing data.
Authoring reports, including analysis reports, literature reviews, and final project reports.
Developing machine learning models.
Writing research papers related to project findings for potential publication.

Salary:

5 OMR/hour
