Admission Targets – In line with its Mission (Engage with Community), DU has obligation and commitment towards its community, especially the low-income families. As such, DU not only provides financial support to the students from low-income families but also strives to ensure that certain number of students from this group are admitted to the university every year. The target is that at least 20% of the students admitted to DU should be from low-income families.
Academic Support – DU strives to ensure successful completion of the academic program by the students from low-income families. There is a “Learning Support Center” (LSC) for providing additional academic support to such students through “Peer Tutoring” scheme. Peer-assisted learning uses the services of academically well-qualified senior-level students to support these students. There is a team of qualified and trained peer tutors, who conduct the tutoring sessions under the supervision of the LSC Coordinator.
The “Learning Support Center Policy” (LSCP) lays down a framework for providing academically weak students as well as students from low-income families with additional and personalised learning support through a range of individual consultation, peer tutoring, workshops, presentations and other programs.
Graduation Targets – DU also strives to ensure that the graduation rate of students from low-income families is at par with the graduation rate other students in the University and the average time taken by them to complete the academic programs is as per Ministry guidelines.
As such the target set by DU is that the bachelor program should be completed in 6 years and diploma and Master program in 3 years, which is one and half times the minimum time taken to complete the program.
