Position title: Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Mathematics and Statistics

About the position

The Department of Mathematics and Sciences, College of Arts and Applied Sciences (CAAS) at Dhofar University (DU) is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Mathematics and Statistics to start in Fall 2025-2026. The appointed faculty will conduct teaching and research in Mathematics/Statistics.

You should hold a PhD/MSc. in Mathematics/Statistics and be able to demonstrate teaching experience (minimum of 2 years) in reputable higher education institutions. You will be able to carry out mathematics/statistics research and community service.

You will be able to contribute to the development and delivery of a range of mathematics and statistics courses both in English and Arabic.

The position is full-time (i.e. 15 credit hours of teaching For a PhD and 18 credit hours for a MSc.) with a renewable contract upon successful completion of a probation period (3 months).

Eligibility criteria:

Must hold a PhD/MSc. in Mathematics/Statistics from a university recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHERI).
The Master’s degree cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) should not be less than 3.2 on a 4-point scale.
Must have at least 2 years of teaching experience at a recognized higher education institution (at least 3 years for the lecturer position).
Must have at least 2 published articles in recognized peer-reviewed journals (for the assistant professor position). The published articles must not be derived from the applicant’s Master thesis.
Must be under 45 years of age at the time of appointment (under 40 years of age for the lecturer position).

To be eligible for the position, the candidate must meet the following requirements:

The candidate must hold a full-time PhD in Cybersecurity or Computer Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity from a university recognized by MOHERI.
The candidate’s Master’s degree cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) should be no less than 3.20 on a 4-point scale.
Candidates must have at least two years of higher education teaching experience in Translation Studies at recognized institutions of higher education, post-PhD.
Preference will be given to those with significant contributions to scientific research and published work in Cybersecurity field.
Candidates must have at least two (2) papers published in recognized peer-reviewed journals. These papers must not be derived from the candidate’s Master’s thesis.
The candidate should be under 45 years of age as of the appointment date.

Job Title: Students Activities Supervisor

Department: Students Affairs

Duties of the Supervisor:
The duties of the Student Activities Supervisor include the following:

Implement the annual activities plan.
Highlight student talents, innovations, and creativity while activating student groups.
Develop an operational plan for student activities for each academic year, specifying roles for each student group.
Organize student activities and training workshops in various fields to enhance student engagement.
Participate in local and international events/competitions approved within the external activities plan.
Engage the local community in events and activities as part of the overall plan.
Organize competitions and tournaments at the university and national levels in student activity fields.
Supervise student groups and their activities.
Propose budgets and coordinate with student group councils to allocate resources to different activities.
Review and approve proposals and programs for each student group.
Oversee events and initiatives implemented by student groups.
Enforce organizational regulations for supervised groups.
Develop activity/group plans in coordination with group management, aligned with the approved annual plan.
Monitor displayed content (texts, materials) and ensure approval by the Director of Student Affairs.
Directly follow up with students to ensure events are executed as planned.

Oversee the election process for group leadership and ensure a smooth handover before the end of May each year.

Required Conditions:

Bachelor’s or Diploma in Civil Engineering
Experience in contracts administration & quantity surveying (minimum 5 years’ experience for bachelor’s degree holder and 10 years for Diploma holder)
Expert knowledge in Contract administration with FIDIC / Oman Standard Document for Building and Civil Engineering Works.
Knowledge of Principles of Measurement International (POM I)

Applications are invited for a temporary Research Assistant (RA) position at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, Dhofar University, Salalah, Oman. This position is part of a Research Grant (RG) project funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research & Innovation (MoHERI) of Oman and will be supervised by Dr. Monzer Daoud from Dhofar Unviersity and Dr. Walid Jomaa from Polytechnique Montreal, Canada.

Context:

In recent years, hydrogen energy, well-known for its wide availability and zero emissions, has become an attractive option for new clean energy source, with applications spanning transportation, materials production, and heating of buildings. However, adopting the hydrogen energy presents specific challenges. Among these, hydrogen embrittlement (HE) which impacts the integrity and performance of materials employed in hydrogen transport and storage. This phenomenon occurs when hydrogen atoms are absorbed by metallic materials, especially in environments under elevated hydrogen pressure, resulting in a loss of ductility and consequently a risk of catastrophic failure. A deeper insight into the correlations between microstructure and HE sensitivity is highly important for ensuring the safety of hydrogen energy systems. In this context, this proposal aims at using artificial intelligence algorithms to enhance the accuracy of phase identification and accelerate the analysis of the microstructure of steels.

Project objectives:

This research focuses on microstructural analysis of steels, involving:

Phase identification in low-and high-grade steels under different heat treatments and mechanical processes.
Crystallographic orientation mapping using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) to build a dataset for deep learning (DL) training.
Selection and implementation of high-performance DL algorithms for phase recognition.
Investigation of the correlation between microstructure and HE sensitivity.

Research Assistant (RA) position requirements:

We are seeking a highly qualified Research Assistant (RA) with a Master’s or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a closely related field. Candidates with backgrounds in Mechanical Engineering (Materials Focus)/Physics (Crystallography)/Computer Science (AI/Deep Learning for Materials Science) may also be considered.

Main Responsibilities:

Compiling and analyzing data.
Authoring reports, including analysis reports, literature reviews, and final project reports.
Developing machine learning models.
Writing research papers related to project findings for potential publication.
