Confident Steps Toward the Future: Dhofar University Engineering Students Showcase AI Applications in Sustainable Engineering at the ‘Ethics of AI’ Expo

In a pioneering move to keep pace with rapid technological advancements, Dhofar University’s College of Engineering students from the Department of Architecture, in collaboration with the Engineering Society, participated in the “Ethics of Artificial Intelligence” Expo on October 14-15, 2024, under the patronage of His Excellency Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar. Supervised by Dr. Lamiaa Mostafa, a lecturer in the Department of Architecture, the students demonstrated creative AI-driven solutions for sustainable design, offering them a unique opportunity to engage directly with the public and showcase the transformative potential of this technology in design and engineering. Artificial intelligence is increasingly recognized as a key tool in various engineering fields, enhancing design precision and enabling deeper data analysis to deliver innovative solutions and accurate project forecasts. It also supports reduced construction costs and improved resource efficiency through eco-friendly methods, reinforcing sustainability in practice. Dhofar University’s engineering students presented practical models illustrating how AI can improve project quality, such as using algorithms for site analysis and space planning. They further demonstrated how AI can be leveraged to create architectural designs that are both economically and environmentally efficient, addressing the needs of future generations. This participation embodies Dhofar University’s mission to prepare a generation of engineers equipped with both solid academic knowledge and practical skills, underscoring the vital role AI plays in enhancing engineers’ capabilities to develop sustainable and intelligent solutions across Oman’s industries and technologies.
