Dhofar University and Gulf Organisation for Research and Development Sign Strategic MOU to Drive Sustainability

In a significant move toward sustainability in the construction sector, Dhofar University, represented by its College of Engineering, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD), headquartered in Qatar. The agreement, signed by Professor Amer bin Ali Al Rawas, President of Dhofar University, and Dr. Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Horr, Chairman of GORD, marks a key collaboration in advancing green building education.

The partnership aims to integrate Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) standards into the curriculums of the College of Engineering, enhancing educational quality and equipping students and professionals with expertise in sustainable construction. The agreement also seeks to raise awareness among students and faculty about best sustainability practices, ensuring the development of a skilled workforce capable of leading the transition to environmentally responsible urban planning.

Professor Al-Rawas emphasized the critical role of academia in preparing future generations for sustainability challenges, noting that this collaboration provides students and faculty with essential tools to implement global green building standards and strengthen climate resilience in Oman.

Dr. Al-Horr highlighted that the MoU supports Oman Vision 2040’s environmental agenda, fostering expertise to tackle climate change challenges.

Dr. Issam Al-Bahdhoor, Dean of the College of Engineering, added that GORD will provide training programs and certifications for faculty, allowing them to become certified GSAS trainers.This collaboration is a milestone for Dhofar University, offering engineering students specialized skills and knowledge to become leaders in sustainable construction. The initiative was led by Dr. Issam Al-Bahdhoor and Dr. Lamiaa Mostafa Abd-Rabo.
