Dhofar University’s College of Engineering Hosts “Urban October 2024” to Empower Youth in Urban Planning for Sustainable Cities
Dhofar University’s College of Engineering recently hosted “Urban October 2024” to strengthen community partnerships with government, private sector, and educational institutions, focusing on the theme “Youth at the Heart of Urban Planning.” Collaborating with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning’s Dhofar branch, the event aimed to empower youth and integrate them into urban planning initiatives. The event drew wide participation from Dhofar’s experts and youth, creating a vibrant, community-centered experience. Activities included field visits to major urban projects, showcasing modern advancements in urban planning. Visual presentations by industry professionals and students fostered knowledge exchange among academics, students, and the local community Key discussions highlighted future urban development with a focus on preserving Omani architectural heritage. An architectural art exhibition celebrated the blend of traditional and contemporary Omani designs. An urban tour of sites like “Return to the Past” and “Al-Shorouq District” further emphasized the role of heritage in upcoming projects. Supported by Dr. Issam Al-Bahdoor, Dean of Engineering, and led by Dr. Lamiaa Mostafa, this initiative underscores Dhofar University’s commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable urban development aligned with Oman’s Vision 2040
