Preserving Heritage, Building Tomorrow: Dhofar University’s Architectural Engineering Department at "October of Urbanism"

The Department of Architectural Engineering participated in the “October of Urbanism” activities in 2023, which were held in the city of Salalah and organised by the General Directorate of Housing and Urban Planning in Dhofar.

The “October of Urbanism” event was a significant initiative geared towards revitalizing historic and cultural areas in Oman, thereby bolstering economic and social facets and promoting urban sustainability, all in alignment with the Sultanate’s 2040 Vision. The event included a tour of the area acquainting participants with the rich urban and cultural heritage of the Al-Haffa region, shedding light on the development plans in progress.

The event concluded with a field experiment to enhance the contribution of urban public transport systems in Salalah, followed by a discussion session on the future of urbanisation in the Sultanate and the shift towards sustainable development.

The event was meticulously overseen by Dr. Abbas Mahmoud and Engineer Lamia Mustafa, lecturer in the Department of Architectural Engineering.
