The Student Counseling Center celebrates World Mental Health Day 2023
The University’s Student Counseling Center held a celebration on the occasion of World Mental Health Day, which falls on the tenth of October of each year and which has been approved by the World Federation for Mental Health since 1992 because of its importance in promoting the solution of problems that people face in various areas of life and in order to achieve mental health. And the well-being of individuals and societies alike.
This year’s celebration came under the slogan “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right,” and the Counseling Center carried out a package of activities within the framework of celebrating World Mental Health Day,
The center, in cooperation with the Student Counseling Center at Sultan Qaboos University, held a virtual lecture via the Zoom program presented by Dr. Aisha Ajwa, a psychologist at the Student Counseling Center at Sultan Qaboos University, under the title “Ways to enhance mental health among students” on Tuesday, 10/10/ 2023.
On Wednesday, 10/11/2023, the Center held a workshop entitled “Emotional Intelligence and its Positive Impact on Psychological Contentment and Mental Health” on the university campus, presented by Dr. Ahmed bin Saeed Bait Amer, Senior Consultant in Behavioral Medicine at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital. Dr. Ahmed, introducing mental health, its manifestations, and its importance in activating a person’s role in life. How much is known about emotional intelligence, how it arises, its components, its relationship to mental health, and ways to benefit from emotional intelligence skills for good mental health. Dr. Ahmed shared with the audience some techniques to get rid of negative thoughts and psychological stress in general.
The lecture was witnessed by guests from the General Directorate of Education in Dhofar Governorate and the General Directorate of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate. The audience interacted with questions and discussions about mental health.
The celebration included accompanying activities, which consisted of distributing leaflets, brochures, and guidance messages to students informing them of mental health and its importance for every person and society.
Prof. Dr. Nasser Said Abdelrasheed, Director of the Center, indicated that celebrating World Mental Health Day is a very important event that helps spread correct psychological awareness for individuals and communities in a healthy manner, and aims to support efforts to promote mental health. The Center is keen on such global celebrations to highlight them for the purpose of spreading health and psychological awareness among all university members and members of the local community alike.
