Over the past five years the research policies were strengthened to improve the quality and impact of
research by encouraging faculty members and students to publish in high quality journals. The result
was commendable as the number of papers published in Web of Science and Scopus indexed journals
increased two-folds as compared to previous years.
As per DU’s strategic plan 2015-19, each Co llege defined their research focus areas (Table 1) to
streamline research activities of its faculty and students in the areas of regional and national
importance as per Oman Vision 2020.
As a result, the research publications by DU faculty rose from 51 in 2010-2012 to over 200 in past five
years, where total number of publications since past five years is 880, whereas, the students are
publishing on an average >20 research papers during each academic year that were almost null 5 years
ago. On an average, DU has a publication rate of 5 papers/faculty.
